Frisby was born and raised in Anthem, Arizona, a suburb in the Northern Phoenix area. She moved with her family to the Price/Helper area in 2022. Frisby graduated from Boulder Creek High School in 2020. “Graduating during COVID was definitely different,” she recalled. “Sadly, given the circumstances, I was not able to have a traditional graduation—there was no in-person ceremony or even a virtual one.”
Frisby and her family have been visiting the Price area since her childhood. They own property up the canyon, so she often saw the USU Eastern campus during their drives through town. When her family relocated from Arizona to Utah, Frisby felt attending USU Eastern would be a great opportunity. “I love the small-town vibes. Coming from a city, my little introverted heart fell in love with it.”
Kevin Van Der Spek, a senior admissions specialist, gave Frisby a campus tour, and she began her education soon after. In 2024, she could finally walk in a ceremony to receive her associate degree and IT support and web design certificate.
As she started her first term, Frisby applied for a job as a Line Cook in Dining Services on campus. Before starting college, she worked various jobs to save money, including working at a law firm, which helped her develop skills that prepared her to apply for the Dining Services position.
Through her job as a Line Cook, Frisby learned about an opening for a Reservations and Event Planning Specialist. “The Dining and Event teams work closely together, so I heard from both sides about the availability of this job. Having already worked with these people and feeling comfortable in the kitchen made the transition to events smooth for me.”
As a Reservations and Event Planning Specialist, Frisby collaborates with various departments to prepare events ranging from simple meetings to larger ones like Eastern’s Legacy Dinner. She also assists community members with events held on campus and coordinates summer camps for coaches and youth groups.
Frisby enjoys attending and participating in events as well. Although she can’t name a favorite, she particularly enjoys events that allow her to be creative. “I’m a creative person at heart, so any event where we create something is always a favorite of mine. I still have the little pots we painted, along with painted pumpkins, canvases, and a Zen Garden.”
Frisby believes the students and staff at Eastern make the campus a special place. As both a student and a full-time employee, she has always felt welcomed by the staff and her fellow students. “There is a nice warm welcome that this campus provides.”
Frisby looks up to many individuals who help keep the campus running smoothly. One of those people is Britte Martines, the Event Services Coordinator, with whom she works with daily. “She puts in so many hours into her job and helps the campus with their events. I am glad to have her as a coworker and friend,” Frisby said. She also expresses gratitude toward Chef Arnoldo Ruiz for his kindness and support, Sharon Jones for her generosity since Frisby’s time as a student, and others like Allie Chamberlain, Megan Durrant, Kevin Van Der Spek, and many more.
If Frisby could offer any advice to students, it would be to understand that it’s OK not to have everything figured out at once. “There is no race where you have to meet certain checkpoints at specific times. Live a life that makes you happy, and know and believe that you are enough,” Frisby states.
