What is Hailey Watching? Kpop Demon Hunters!

Hello! And welcome to “What is Hailey Watching?” Our movie this week is Kpop Demon Hunters. Now grab your popcorn and on to the review!

“You gave me my soul back, and now I give it to you” – Jinu, Kpop Demon Hunters. Kpop Demon Hunters has been topping the charts since its release on Netflix on June 20, 2025. Fans went wild for this animated musical-action movie, and it is easy to see why. Kpop Demon Hunters follows the Kpop band the Huntrix, who possess a secret life of battling demons to protect their fans and the world. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey have their biggest event yet coming up, The Idol Awards. In addition, they must seal the Honmoon, the demon barrier, with their voices to keep the demons locked away under the earth.

However, if they fail to win the Idol awards, demons will walk freely on earth, sucking their fans’ souls out of their bodies and delivering them to the devil himself, Gwi-Ma. When the new hot boy band, the Saja Boys, comes into town, winning the Idol Awards will not be as simple as Huntrix thinks.

Battles are fought and secrets unfold as the Huntrix strive to keep their fans happy and the demons at bay. We can only hope that everything will turn out golden. Kpop Demon Hunters has a ranking of 7.7 on IMDb and is the most-watched movie on Netflix with over 236 million views. After watching this movie three times, I have concluded that it deserves all the hype it is receiving. Not only does this movie boast vibrant and versatile animation, a soundtrack that breaks the charts, but it also conveys a message that resonates with viewers.

The quote, “We are hunters. Your faults and fears must never be seen,” is repeated throughout the movie, perpetuating the narrative that we must not be vulnerable and sensitive around others. Suppressing what is not perceived as happy and confident is necessary to maintain admiration from fans. At the end of the movie, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey realize they do not need to hide from one another. Everyone has faults. Not everyone is perfect, and that is OK. In fact, your faults, your darkness, and your imperfections make you who you are. Learning how to harmonize with both sides allows you to become your most authentic self.

This is summed up in a line in their hit song Golden, “No more hiding, I’ll be shining, like I’m born to be!” K-pop Demon Hunters may seem a bit silly at first, but after watching and appreciating the movie for what it is, you will find that it will be an inspiration for years to come.

Please tune in next week when we review Palo Alto.
