On Sept. 12, the new Rookie Ambassadors from the Logan campus traveled down to USU Eastern in Price to see all our campus has to offer.

The Ambassadors are a student leadership group within the university that is housed at Logan, Eastern, and statewide campuses. According to the USU Ambassadors website, “Established in 1983, the Utah State Ambassador Program focuses on service and leadership. Ambassadors positively represent and serve Utah State University campuses and communities across the state. Students who are actively participating in the program receive a scholarship that can be renewed annually.”

The Logan Ambassadors were first welcomed at Gardner Field in Helper by both Eastern Ambassadors and the Eastern Baseball Team. This gave the unique perspective of showing them that even though we are Aggies in the classroom, we are Eagles on the field. The Ambassadors were invited to participate in several activities, including a pitching station, practice in the batting cage, and learning to run the bases.

The Ambassadors then headed back to campus to enjoy a meal from the Eagle’s Grill. During lunch, Kevin Van der Spek, Senior Admissions Specialist, presented on the visit and providedfacts about USU Eastern.

Van der Spek went on to share the purpose of the visit, “Our recruitment strategy is to use the strength of the larger USU system to connect students back to Eastern. When these Rookie Ambassadors come here in person, they don’t just hear about Eastern, they experience it. They meet the faculty, see the campus, and really understand what makes Eastern unique. Those experiences stick with them and become a powerful tool for encouraging students to look at Eastern as their home campus.”

The Logan Ambassadors were also able to hear the Eastern Ambassadors’ student life experiences and what they love about our campus.

After lunch, the student leaders were split into three groups to tour different departments around our campus: Cosmetology, Welding, and Social Work. The student leaders were able to get paraffin waxes from Cosmetology students, tour our state-of-the-art Welding facilities, and learn from experts in our Social Work department.

Sophie Davies, USU Logan Ambassador, said, “It was amazing to see the diverse opportunities at different USU campuses across the state. I loved learning about the different technical programs offered at USU Eastern, like Cosmetology and Welding. This trip has educated me on the statewide campus experience that will definitely come in handy when I get to tell prospective students about it as well.”

Students like USU Logan Rookie Mentor, Emily Barker, have come to USU Eastern’s campus before and fallen even more in love with our campus. Barker said, “My favorite part of going to USU Eastern was seeing the different programs it offers, which make different opportunities for students that much more accessible. We practiced with the baseball team and had so much fun getting to know their athletes, meeting their students, and familiarizing ourselves with the campus.”

After department demonstrations, the student leaders headed over to the Wave Pool to experience all that it offers for USU Eastern students and our community. San Rafael Works then catered dinner after a day of fun.

Overall, the day was enjoyed by new and familiar faces, giving a glimpse into why the Utah State system is so great. No matter where you attend, you truly are a part of the Aggie family. The Logan Ambassador team can now tell prospective students that they can be a part of the Aggie family here at USU Eastern.
