USU Eastern welcomes new Vice President

Utah State University has a panel of leaders who help students connect and interact with each other. This panel is led by the USU Eastern Vice President, Brooklyn Mackay.
Mackay is originally from Riverton, Utah. She loves fishing, baking, and riding side by sides. Her favorite movies are Fast and Furious and Twilight. She loves seeing and receiving flowers and has a deep appreciation for nature. She also considers herself a connoisseur of Cherry Coke.
This year is her third year here at USU Eastern. She has received her Associate of Science degree and is currently enrolled in the nursing program, working toward her LPN certificate. Mackay’s end goal is to have a career as a pediatric nurse.
She has always loved helping and being surrounded by kids, and it’s dream is to be able to help babies in their first few years of life.
Mackay loves the nursing program at Eastern and recommends it to anyone looking to pursue a career in the medical field. She loves all the professors and admires their kindness and genuine passion for their students’ success.
Mackay first fell in love with USU Eastern when she came to leadership day before her freshman year. She interviewed for the USUSA leadership team and immediately felt as if she had found her place.
Mackay described the team as more like a family, and that she was seen as a person rather than a number on a name tag.
Her first year on USUSA, her leadership position was as the SUN center representative. Her responsibilities included planning service events and activities to help students understand the importance of community service.
Mackay helped start many events here at USU Eastern, including the annual Sweater Swap event, where students can receive a one-of-a-kind USUE crew neck by donating to a nearby charity chosen by USUSA each year.
She also helped build up the student SNAC pantry for students who are dealing with food insecurity. During her tenure as the SUN center representative, she assisted organizations such as Caring for Kids, United Way, and many others.
Mackay has a passion for serving others, and she hopes to help students love this campus as much as she does.
In her second year, she served as the Director of Activities, where she planned most of the significant traditional events on campus. She had the opportunity to prepare some of her favorite events on campus, such as Casino Night and Bingo Night, two of the most significant annual events.
Mackay said that one of her favorite parts of her job was having an idea for an event, and then watching it blossom into something that she could be proud of. She believes that planning and hosting events is a large part of the students’ campus experience.
This year, Mackay said she is privileged to serve as the Vice President of Utah State University Eastern.
She says that she loves being able to help students feel as if they have a voice and that she can listen to their concerns and make fundamental changes for them. Mackay says she is passionate about helping students feel safe on campus.
Her goals as Vice President are to increase accessibility on campus, listen to students’ needs, help them make effective changes, and express genuine concern and care for them.
Mackay wants her fellow students’ college experience here at Utah State University Eastern to be positive and memorable.
