Philadelphia – The Denver Broncos played the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field this last Sunday, winning by a score of 21-17. The first quarter started out slowly for both teams with a tied score of three after one.
The home team would later take the lead 10-3 after a Jalen Hurts to Dallas Goedert touchdown pass. A defensive battle through two quarters for both teams. Bo Nix struggled with no touchdowns and only one drive that ended in points. Despite the poor performance of the offense in the first half, the defense made it so that the game was just a one-score game at halftime.
The Eagles started the 2nd half on offense and began with a bang. A deep ball from Jalen Hurts to Saquon Barkley, which electrified the stadium, adding to the lead 17-3.
Many Broncos fans started to doubt after the Eagles’ quick drive. The Broncos would get the ball and would settle for another punt. Punt after punt seemed to be the remedy.
With the stadium electric, the Broncos’ offense couldn’t sustain a drive for any points until early in the 4th quarter. Nix drove the ball down the field and capped it off with a JK Dobbins run on 1st and goal following a penalty by Philly in the end zone.
The defense would stiffen after the Broncos’ touchdown, resulting in a three-and-out. Jaquan McMillan finished off the Eagles’ drive by sacking quarterback Jalen Hurts from behind. That wasn’t the only sack that had a defining moment for this Denver defense.
Nix and Evan Engram were the stars for the Broncos on the next drive. Nix’s most extended play of the day occurred on this drive, a Nix pass to Courtland Sutton for 34 yards. Engram had two huge receptions, with one of them being an 11-yard touchdown catch.
With the score 17-16, the Broncos would convert a two-point pass from Nix to Troy Franklin.
18-17 with 7:36 remaining in the 4th quarter. Two crucial penalties against the Eagles cost them an opportunity to score points, including an illegal shift on the offense on a 4th and four that the Eagles converted.
Following the punt with only five minutes to go, the Broncos took control with a field goal to take a four-point lead in the final minute and a half of the game.
The Eagles’ offense trots out on the field for one more possession, and they drive down to the 29-yard line of the Broncos’ side of the field. A controversial no-call, which looked to be pass interference on Riley Moss, made the last play of the game harder for the Eagles. A Hail Mary for Jalen Hurts would ultimately go out the back of the end zone.
The Broncos would ultimately shock the NFL world with a 21-17 upset.
