USU Eastern men’s basketball splits Idaho road trip after hot start

The USU Eastern Eagles entered the weekend ranked No. 23 in the country, and now sit 16-4 overall with a 3-2 mark in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Led by head coach Bill Evans and assistant coach Easton Ralphs, the team has worked tremendously hard to achieve a top 25 ranking after starting the season unranked. The only two conference losses have come on the road, including a 7-point setback to the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Snow College.

Ike Palmer has had a great start to the season, averaging 16.7 points per game and just over 15 points in conference action. He is followed by Bowen Davies and Isaac Castagnetto. Davies, with a season average of 13 points per game, and Castegnetto at 14.3 points per game in conference.

Kayin Turner leads his team in three-pointers this season with 29 made. He is followed by Castagnetto, Palmer, and Robbie Yates. Castagnetto with 14, Palmer and Yates both with 13. Yates also leads the team in three-pointers for the conference.

After a three-game road trip, the Eagles will return home Thursday night to meet Snow College for the second time this season. The Badgers are no longer undefeated in conference play after losing to the College of Southern Idaho and will enter with a 4-1 mark.

Tip-off for Thursday’s game is scheduled for 7:00 pm, immediately following the women’s game at the BDAC.
