Your campus, your voice, your vote

Utah State University Eastern students can head to the online polls Feb. 23 and 24 for the Utah State University Student Association (USUSA) elections. Students will be choosing both campus representatives and university-wide student leaders.

USUSA is the student government for Utah State. Elected students help plan activities, support other clubs and leadership groups, share student concerns with administrators, and speak for students when decisions affect campus life.

For Eastern students, the election matters in a very direct way. The ballot includes the Eastern Service Region, the group of students who help organize our own campus events, promote activities, and communicate what students want to see on the Eastern campus.

On a small campus, many students already know the candidates. They are often involved in events, service projects, clubs, and other leadership groups. Voting often means supporting classmates you see around campus every week.

Students will also vote for university-wide USUSA officers. These leaders represent all Utah State campuses and bring student concerns to university leadership across the statewide system.

Voting is done completely online and only takes a few minutes. When voting opens Feb. 23, students can log in to their USU account and access the ballot through the elections link. The ballot can be completed on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Before voting, students can visit the elections website to read short profiles about each candidate, view their qualifications, and see what they hope to accomplish if elected. Meet the Candidates | USUSA Elections | Involvement | USU.

Because Eastern is a smaller campus, sometimes only a small number of votes can decide our races. Participation helps make sure Eastern students are represented when decisions are made about activities, funding, and student resources.

University staff encourage students to vote even if they do not know every candidate. Learning about a few positions or recognizing someone involved on campus is enough to participate. The elections are also an introduction to leadership for many students. Some voters one year become candidates the next after getting involved in clubs, activities, or campus jobs.

Ballots will be available through students’ USU accounts when voting begins Feb. 23, and all currently enrolled students are eligible to participate. For Eastern students, the election is less about politics and more about community. Voting is one way to support classmates and help shape the campus life for the coming year.
