The first cowboys
This land had thriving ranches and farms run by the Vaqueros, the first cowboys, along with the legendary Gauchos. In the early 1800s ,Mexico broke from Spain and became its own place. Unfortunately, not long after the Mexican-American War happened. America, trying to develop, wanted more land; sadly, Mexico lost the war. A large portion was taken, creating the wild west. Those Mexicans became Americans, kept their practices, and raised cattle all the way up until the Industrial Revolution.
The Vaqueiros made the Wild West/county aesthetic, but unfortunately, lately, Latinos have been discriminated against and segregated from their own creations. It’s extremely hypocritical to dress and partake in a culture and then proceed to mistreat the people who started it. And those out there should be ashamed of themself and put to shame for doing so. Without the Latinos, the Wild West, and country culture wouldn’t exist, and America wouldn’t be the same. And Hollywood completely threw the truth out the window and made all cowboys white.
Several states used to be part of Mexico, and Spanish history is American history, and it’s time to give some recognition that’s long overdue.
Towards the end of the Middle Ages, the Spanish arrived in the Americas. Bringing along their horses, cows, and the techniques they had for taking care of their animals. These techniques were from both Spain and Moorish creating the cattle culture they brought here. The Spanish interbreeded with the indigenous people, thus creating the Latin America we know today, but at the time, it was labeled as New Spain. Ranging from South America all the way up to almost Canada.
