Demolition of Main and Science buildings set for November

Demolition of the old Main Building and Science Building will begin in mid-November. In order for the asbestos abatement to occur prior to the demolition, everything in these two buildings will need to be removed. Demolition of the buildings should be completed by Christmas.
According to Dennis Geary, the demolition of the buildings went out for bid two weeks ago and it will be two more weeks before the demolition contractor is announced.
The plan for the area between the New Reeves Building and the Geary Theater is for a 90-space parking area, a new fountain almost directly at the end of 4th East, and green space.
“We are not quite sure what will go in the place of the science building yet,” stated Mike King in an e-mail sent out to all faculty and staff.
Construction of a new costume shop for the theatre was started Oct.13. This will replace the costume shop that will be lost when the Old Main Building comes down. The remodeled space will be located in the waiting/lobby area where students and faculty usually gather to begin the annual commencement march.
