Students looking forward to Eagle basketball
Since the school hasn’t had a football team in 14 years, students are looking for something to cheer about around here. Good thing CEU basketball is just around the corner.
Many students complain about not having anything to do on the weekends. Homework just doesn’t seem to keep them busy enough and they want the excitement that watching the Golden Eagle men’s basketball offers them.

Since the school hasn’t had a football team in 14 years, students are looking for something to cheer about around here. Good thing CEU basketball is just around the corner.
Many students complain about not having anything to do on the weekends. Homework just doesn’t seem to keep them busy enough and they want the excitement that watching the Golden Eagle men’s basketball offers them.
Matt Madsen of CEU says, “I’m looking forward to the B-ball team playing. It will give me something to do on the weekends.” Although games don’t start for a couple of months there is still excitement around campus about the basketball team.
Jeremy Fackrell who just graduated from Kearns High School is a freshman at CEU and has been working out with the team. Although not on scholarship, he has been working with the team since school started. “It’s been fun. I enjoy being with the team and they should be pretty good this year,” he says.
Even though Mackrell is not guaranteed a spot on the team he loves to play ball and plays whenever he is given a chance. He’s always looking for ways to improve his game. He too looks forward to watching the team play later this fall and into winter.
The basketball team is pumped and ready to get on the court and show everyone what they’ve got. A few players on the mens team have mentioned that they are a small team, with their tallest player only 6’8″, but they compensate for their size with their quickness.
“We are very excited for the season to begin as well,” adds head coach Bryan Zollinger. “This particular group of young men has proven to have a very good work ethic and a lot of enthusiasm. They are trying to be active in campus activities and support other student organizations, which in turn support the athletic teams.
“This year’s team will be exciting to watch because they are very aggressive on defense and very up-tempo on offense. The games should be high scoring and be exciting to watch. The student support over the last several years has been tremendous and creates a definite home court advantage for us, and it is not uncommon for our students to outnumber our opponent’s fans when we play road games. I also feel it would be remiss not to mention the women’s team which is also exciting to watch with their pressing style and three-point shooting. All in all it can be a very fun way to spend your weekend evenings during the winter,” he said
There are some students around campus looking to travel with the team to their away games. “Hopefully basketball will get rolling soon so the road-tripping’ club can go support them … wherever they are!” says Ivan Carroll. Whether the team is playing at home or away, there will be some CEU fans cheering the team on.
The team travels as far north as Northern Idaho and as far south as St. George. Ed Johnson is looking forward to going to the games too, “I’ve got nothing better to do.”
A lot of students are still excited for the season to begin. Amy Anderson said, “I’m way excited. I love basketball. In high school I was the manager for the boy’s basketball team. I just love sports and can’t wait to watch.”
Even if could care less about basketball, CEU basketball is just around the corner, with a team that is looking to improve in every aspect of the game.
So whether you are looking forward to a road trip to watch them play or just excited to see some real action in the BDAC, CEU basketball is upon us.
