Gibby “the rock” finally gets new resting place

Where is Gibby?
One of the most famous rocks in
Carbon County has been missing all
year. The construction has moved
many things around these past months
and one thing that has yet to be returned
is Gibby. This year Gibby has
been sitting up on Durrant Field all
alone, but soon ASCEU plans to give
our beloved rock a new home at the
completion of the construction.
For those who are wondering what
Gibby is, the rock has been on CEU
campus for many years. It is the one
thing on campus that you can paint
any color you want at anytime and not
get into any trouble.

Where is Gibby? One of the most famous rocks in Carbon County has been missing all year. The construction has moved many things around these past months and one thing that has yet to be returned
is Gibby.

This year Gibby has been sitting up on Durrant Field all alone, but soon ASCEU plans to give our beloved rock a new home at the completion of the construction site.

For those who are wondering what Gibby is, the rock has been on CEU
campus for many years. It is the one thing on campus that you can paint any color you want at anytime and not get into any trouble.

Natalie Cutler thought Gibby could be a little freaky pet. This is
why students need Gibby back, so that everyone will know what the
rock is all about. The alumni were upset when Gibby was taken off the campus, even just for the construction. Most of the students and the community will be glad when the rock is replaced to the campus.

Dan Wood said, “Gibby is tradition and a major part of community.”
Gibby has always been a way of bringing the community together.
The painting of Gibby began back in 1940 when some freshmen guys
brought the red sandstone rock painted green with a white 41 on it for the first time. This, as we all know, angered the sophomores and they challenged the freshman to a sack race. The sophomores won and the color of the rock was then changed to red with a white 40 across it. Since then, the rock has been painted by many students.

You may be thinking where did a name like Gibby come from? When
Jill Schaugaard was asked what she thought the rock’s real name was she
said “Gertrude?”

When Jessica Jessop was asked, she replied “Gabriel Franchesca.” The true name of Gibby the rock is Gibral Tar. They nicknamed
it Gibby.

There must be more uses for a rock on campus, right? Soon we will
be able to practice the well-known tradition called True Eagle. “Gibby
allows students to kiss over the rock to become a True Eagle,” says Jesse
Holt. For as old as the rock is, it sure gets a lot of action.

The rock is a fun thing that any students can enjoy and it allows them
to express themselves in a good way. Sophomore Kimalee Oveson said,
“Last year someone put my dorm [phone] number on the rock and my
phone was ringing off the hook; man I miss Gibby!” You can paint any
number of different crazy things on the rock and that is why we miss it so
much. We need to get our Gibby back.

Gibby will now be moved to the east side of the fountain for the rest of
its life at CEU. If you would like to write your number, your favorite team,
marriage proposal or any other crazy message on the rock, feel free, it is a
great way to express your opinion. Don’t neglect Gibral Tar when we get
our rock back on campus. Express yourself!
