CEU named a new provost and vice president of
academic affairs, Mike King, who started in his new
position on July 1. King has a bachelor’s and master’s
degree in zoology from Brigham Young University
and a doctorate from Utah State University in wildlife
sciences. He started his career at CEU in 1996 as a life
science instructor and named the dean of arts and
sciences where he has served the past four years.
King’s new duties include “Maintaining academic
integrity.” He oversees the academic programs at CEU
and makes sure that the school offers the necessary
courses for students to earn their degrees in a timely
fashion. He is also working on getting some new
academic programs started.
According to King, “The year started off a little
shaky, we had some problems with the construction,
that was an inconvience for students, and we’ve had
some problems with the web site, but I think things are
going well. Our new faculty is also doing well, and we
have a more positive attitude now.” He is looking
forward to the rest of the year.
“My goal is to have students have the same kind of
experience I did while I was at CEU, academically
speaking,” said King. He grew up in Price as his father
was teaching at CEU. Going on trips with his father is
what got King interested in science. King’s father was
also a life sciences instructor at CEU and was eventually
made dean of instruction, which is the equivalent of vice
president of academic affairs today. King says that if he
to needs advice, he turns to his father.
King has this advice for students, “Attend class,
study hard, ask for help if you need it and turn off your
cell phones in class. Take advantage of everything
CEU and the surrounding area has to offer.” King
praises the outdoors and encourages students to not
only study hard and do well academically, but to go and
see what’s out there.
