High school art show is simply the best

College of Eastern Utah’s Gallery East sponsored its first annual high school art competition fall semester for all high school art students in Utah. The jured show featured the best and latest works by over 80 students from 24 high schools. The show which runs through January 24 and is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 am until 5 pm.

College of Eastern Utah’s Gallery East sponsored its first annual high school art competition fall semester for all high school art students in Utah. The jured show featured the best and latest works by over 80 students from 24 high schools. The show which runs through January 24 and is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 am until 5 pm.
The main goal of this exhibit is to provide encouragement and support to young people who exhibit exceptional artistic skills by acknowledging their efforts, and rewarding their finest accomplishments, Brent Haddock, art show curator said. Student work was judged on creativity, technical skill and sense of style. Awards for the show include a full-time CEU Art Department tuition scholarship, and over $500 in cash awards.
Participating high schools include: Provo, Waterford, Murray, Hillcrest, Bingham, Skyview, Logan, Highland, Gunnison, Viewmont, Monticello, Cottonwood, Intermountain Christian School, Grand County, Canyon View, Emery, Northridge, Carbon, Halls Crossing, Layton, Wasatch Academy, Lake Powell School, Brighton, and Timpanogos.
Three student scholarship awards (full-tuition art departmental scholarships worth approximately $1,500) were awarded to Mike Bluth, Hillcrest High School; Jessica Bastian, Gunnison High School; and Brittney M. Salt, Viewmont High School.
The cash awards went to Best of Show ($150) – Shawn Stinson (photography) Provo High School; First Place ($125) – Ryan Lewis (ceramics) Murray High School; Second Place ($100) – Casondra Normon (ceramics) Waterford School; and Third Place ($75) – Danielle Alegnani (Prismacolor) Northridge High School.
The Bookstore gift certificate ($25) went to Brooklyn Day (Prismacolor) Waterford School.
Ten honorable mention awards ($25) were awared to Jordy Kirkman (sculpture) Skyview High School; AnnaLyssa Powell (ceramics) Bingham High School; Amber Knight (Prismacolor) Grand County High School; Alexei Bastidas (photography) Logan High School; Shanda Larsen (watercolor) Skyview High School; Sariah Spencer (ceramics) Wasatch Academy; Megan Dykhuizen (jewelry) Brighton High School; Calise Drew (jewelry) Hillcrest High School; Brendon Hopkins (Prismacolor) Waterford School; and Andrea McKenna (photography) Waterford School.
