Coach Brent Martindale was disappointed with the way the Eagles played saying, “We are at a stage right now where I am not satisfied with any of our efforts. We have lost confidence in ourselves and play as though we already expect to lose. The SLCC match was good until about midway through the game … the Snow match was the same way. We were beating Snow in game one, 17-14, and then we let them go on a 13-4 run to end the game.”
The Eagles (9-15) fell to the Bruins (30-11) in three straight sets, losing 30-18, 30-19 and 30-12. The Eagles struggled offensively with only Meagan Webb maintaining a hitting average above .300. The Eagles also were overwhelmed by the Bruins’ offense. SLCC standouts Kristie Kidman had 10 kills and Anna Lott finished the match with an impressive .700 hitting average.
After the loss to SLCC, the Eagles returned home to finish the season against the 12-13 Badgers. The rivalry against Snow has been fairly one sided in recent years. The Eagles lost the match to Snow in three sets: 30-18, 30-17 and 30-20.
Although the Eagles lost, there was improvement from the game with SLCC. Ashlie Baker had a good match for the Eagles, racking up six kills and finishing the match with a hitting average of .417, the highest on the team. The Eagles struggled defensively. Ashley Brown of Snow finished the match with 13 kills.
The Eagles enter tournament play this weekend. “The region tournament will be held in Twin Falls, Idaho. CEU plays North Idaho College in the first round on Friday, Nov. 11. If we win, we play the winner of the Snow/CSI match in the finals on Saturday. The winner represents the region at nationals in Missouri Nov. 21-23,” Martindale said.
