Nelson wanted to teach since the fourth grade
Being in the fourth grade is an exciting time for all of us. This is when we are not the littlest kids in the elementary school, but do not have the responsibility of being the big kids either. Although for some students fourth grade can be life altering, for Melanie Nelson, a math adviser, it was such a time.
It was when Nelson was in fourth grade that she decided to be a teacher. This is probably because I liked my fourth grade teacher, she said.

It was when Nelson was in fourth grade that she decided to be a teacher. This is probably because I liked my fourth grade teacher, she said.
I wanted to teach because I felt that being a woman, and someday a wife and mother, that by entering this profession would give me a good chance to be home when my children are out of school and well as time off with them during summer.
She started her college education in Bemidji, Minn., at Bemidji State University where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in math. After this she left her home state of Minnesota where she had grown up in Minneapolis and came to Utah. She then earned her master’s degree in math education from Utah State University.
Nelson decided to stay in Utah and worked at Carbon High School as a math teacher several years. Moving forward and advancing in her field, she came to the College of Eastern Utah where he is an advisor for math.
The thing she likes about living in Price is that it is a laid back community. You are not stressed too often because it is such a small town. Also she likes that Price is an ideal location for many different recreational activities.
Some of her favorite hobbies include mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing which is something that can be done in Price. Another thing that she likes to do is read her three personal favorite authors are Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson and Janet Evanovich.
Nelson also likes to watch TV and movies. Her favorite TV shows are CSI, Cold Case, and anything that is detective or a type of mystery. She also likes to watch anything with Nicolas Cage and anything that is suspenseful.
She loves working at CEU because of the smallness. Nelson said, “It allows you a chance to get to know the students and other faculty members.” She added, “there are a lot of very caring faculty around CEU.”
