Two award-winning poets to speak at CEU

Two poets will read their work at CEU this April, National Poetry month. The readings, part of the CEU Readers’ Series, are sponsored by the Utah Arts Council and CEU. One poet will also present a free poetry-writing workshop for interested students and both the CEU community and the Price community.
Katie Kingston, a former CEU English and Spanish instructor, now living in Trinidad, Colo., will read on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Alumni Room.
She has won several poetry awards and has a book In My Dreams, Neruda, published in 2006 and won the editor’s prize in Main Street Rag’s contest. She has another book appearing next fall, which won The White Eagle Coffee Store contest. She has won the Wurlitzer Prize and Ruth Stone Award.
On April 12 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Board Room, Kingston will offer a hands-on poetry workshop called “Sculpting a Poem.” Anyone interested in the workshop should call Randee Schultz at 5223.
Leslie Norris, one of Utah’s most accomplished poets and story writers, teaches literature at BYU. Leslie has won several awards for his work including the Cholmondeley Prize, the David Higham Memorial Prize, The Katherine Mansfield Memorial Award and the Welsh Arts Council Senior Fiction Award. He is an honorary D. Litt of the University of Glamorgan, the school near his birth place in Wales. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Welsh Academy. His Collected Stories and Collected Poems were both published in 1996. In addition to his more usual work, Norris has frequently written stories and poems for children, and his Christmas story “Albert and the Angels” was published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
Norris will read his poetry on April 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Center’s Alumni Room.
Both readings are free and all are encouraged to attend to hear both of these accomplished writers, and to celebrate National Poetry Month.
