These five competitors will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, on October 29 through November 3 and have a final weld-off challenge to choose the number-one competitor in the nation, which will represent the U.S. in Japan 2007.
Automotive Department
Stan Martineau, CEU automotive instructor, received noteworthy results from the Industry Planning Council for automotive programs in the U.S.
CEU was ranked number-one in the state of Utah for the third year in a row. The college’s automotive program was not ranked as one of the top three this year, however it rated are among the top 10.
CEU was right with the best in the nation in all but two areas.
1- Advisory committee – The winners had an advisory committee that had lobbied for newer vehicles, raised funds and also provide scholarships to local students. At this time we are not doing those things, he said.
2- Instructor qualifications – The universities that placed have instructors with engineering degrees and some of their instructors have worked designing automotive systems for manufacturers. That is something that I have not done and qualifications that I do not have, he said.
All other areas CEU rated among the best. Martineau added, “I hope that you do not feel that I let you down. From what I understand, we were the smallest college in the nation to be recognized.”
Nursing Department
Frances Swasey CEU nursing instructor, announced that 100 percent of the 2005-2006 registered nursing class has passed the NCLEX licensing exam. “This is a great accomplishment since the national passing rate is around 90 percent.
“Also, unofficially, all of the licensed practical nursing students who have taken the NCLEX have passed. We still have some who haven’t taken the exam so we can’t officially announce a 100 percent pass rate, but we are hopeful.”
