14-member golf team ends season
The College of Eastern Utah golf class and team have completed the 2006 season. According to instructor and Coach Cardell Sackett, “it was a good year, we had good participation, a full class and the team was able to compete with schools that have much larger programs.”
The class this year was capped at 14 members. Those members played at the Carbon Country Club and five members qualified to compete with other two year colleges including Snow College, Salt Lake Community College, Utah State Extension at Roosevelt, and Utah Valley Community College.

Sackett stated “each college hosted a tournament and luncheon on their home course and we were fortunate to have the support of the Carbon County Country Club Pro T.K. King, with assistance from Kenji Otani and his staff.”
The class taught fundamentals of golf and explained golf’s techniques and rules. “Etiquette and rules are foremost in playing and enjoying the game of golf,” according to Sackett. Class members were tested in those areas and then practiced on the driving range before playing the course.
They met on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Sackett tried to make time to assist members with extra help. “I feel this year’s success was manifest in the abilities and improvements of the players,” Sackett stated.
This is the second year Sackett coached and taught the class. The team worked well together and improved in scoring and skills, he added.
“I have a great respect for the players and members of the golf team. They have proven their honesty and knowledge of the game, and that is what I considered the most important part of the program,” Sackett said. It has been a good year.
