SUN Center Spotlight

The SUN Center is excited to kick off the new semester with a spotlight on two of our fabulous leaders, Elcio Dutra and Janalee Heslop.
Heslop comes from Clearfield, Utah, where she first got involved with service.   The Heslop family has always been involved with service, and so it was only natural that Janalee would join in as well.   Heslop joined the SUN Center because she wanted to spend her time helping other people.

“The SUN Center was the perfect opportunity to have a service project to help with the needs of our community,”  she said. Heslop is currently the leader over Newborns in Need, and the program is thriving.   The SUN Center has never seen so many quilts brought in during one semester, and they continue to come in under the guidance of Heslop.   The Newborns in Need projects always promise a good time, so look for them to be starting again soon.
In her free time, Heslop enjoys tap, jazz, ballet and swing dancing, playing the flute and piano, spending time with her family and doing anything outside.
Dutra has roots that stretch all the way back to Rio Preto, Brazil, but now his family calls Kearns, Utah, home.  Dutra’s life has been full of service, some of his favorite projects include painting fire hydrants, tutoring, working at a soup factory and participating in a Kiwanis toy drive.
Dutra is overseeing the SUN Center’s RASK (Random Acts of Simple Kindness) program.   The acts range from big to small, and Dutra likes to have different people involved every time.   Dutra offers an enthusiastic energy to the SUN Center and we are glad to have him.
Outside of the SUN Center Dutra enjoys watching Sport’s Center, spending time with his family and friends, and watching comedies.   In high school Dutra was a Sterling Scholar in computer science.   His friends say he is a man of brains, “so watch out world, here he comes.”
The SUN Center would like to send a special thank you out to a few leaders who are not able to be with us this semester.   Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication, many have benefited from your service!   Again, thanks to Aldo Hernandez, Jake Anderson, Emily McRae, Adam Peterson and Krystle Noyes.
