CEU’s Rocky Mountain Mediafest

Lone Peak High School, Weber High School and Alta High School journalists were the top winners in this year’s Rocky Mountain Mediafest’s annual competition hosted by CEU’s communication department. Contest entries were submitted from work completed by the high school students from Jan. 1, 2006 to Dec. 31, 2006.

Weber High School’s Warrior News and Alta High School’s The Hawkeye students each won 12 awards withLone Peak’s Crusader students taking home 10 awards.
Alta swept the opinions/editorial category with Conner McKinnon taking first, Miles Bakker second, Zach Storms third and Angela Engels honorable mention. Weber’s Brooke Broderick also received an honorable mention.
Weber placed first and second in news story with Ariana Hedges placing first and Tiffany Madsen second. Third place went to Sean Corbin of Lone Peak.
The Hawkeye’s Andrew Rivera and Cally Orme received honorable mentions for their news stories as well as the Lone Peak Crusader’s Jenna Garrett.
Rivera also placed first in sports story followed by Weber’s Steve Godfrey and Jared Pfost who placed second and third, respectively. Pfost also won first in sports feature story followed by Weber’s Emily Bennett taking second and Alta’s Miles Bakker taking third. Carbon High School’s Cathleen Morgan earned an honorable mention in sports feature.
Lone Peak’s Brittany Austin placed first and third in the feature story category followed by Alta’s Kelsey Jones taking second. Honorable mention went to Alta’s Miles Bakker.
Best of photography went to Amy Devitt from Lone Peak High School, followed by Tiffany Madsen from Weber taking second and Felicia Jones from Alta taking third.
First place in cartoons went to Nicole Fisher from Weber, second went to Kolby Larsen from Lone Peak and third went to Denise Daniels from Weber.
The best of newspaper page layout went to Alta High School with Lone Peak placing second. In overall newspaper design, Weber High School won first, Lone Peak High School second and Carbon High School third. In front page design, Weber High School placed first, Lone Peak second and Carbon High School third.
Best art design went to Isabell Durach from Carbon High School with Lizzy Ballif from Lone Peak taking second place.
In yearbook photos, Alex Burringo placed first, Kirsten Ransdell second and Sorine Goodworth third. In yearbook page layout, Caroline Sekula placed first, Rachel Lingard second and Lauren DeGraw third. All were from Grantsville High School.
