The Friday Night Schmoozer concert series continues with three major events happening in the next month.
Tomorrow (Feb. 23) three bands take the stage in the Old Ballroom for a rock show.   Today’s Tomorrow and The People vs. Nick Kiahtipes are both local bands.   They will share the stage with Victim Effect, a Provo band.
The six-member band plays an eclectic rock show.   Together since 2004, Victim Effect tries to avoid being pegged to a specific genre.   Instead, they try to stay true to their own artistic vision.   More information about the band can be found at www.victimeffect.com.   The doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with the first band taking the stage at 8 p.m.   Admission is $3 at the door.
March 2 will see the return of Acoustic Spoken Groove.   Peter Nevland and Paul Finley are from Austin, Texas.   They have been playing together for several years and offer a unique show.
Nevland is a poet who cut his artistic teeth in the slam poetry competitions in and around his native Austin.   Finley is a classically trained musician specializing in guitar.   The two met while performing at the same show.   They combine Nevland’s poetry with Finley’s musicality and create a unique show.   This show is family friendly.   The concert will be in the Little Theatre.   Tickets for the show are $5 per person at the door.   The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the band takes the stage at 8.   Samples of their music can be heard on 107.9 The Edge, or on the band’s web site at www.spokengroove.com.
The next major show will be the Battle of the Bands.   This is the second year that 107.9 The Edge has hosted the battle.   The show will be in the BDAC on Saturday, March 24.   Up to 10 bands will compete for a $750 prize package in two categories; under 18, and over 18.   The battle is used to encourage up and coming bands to show their stuff.   Any of the bands who register, and have a recording of their music will be featured on 107.9 The Edge.   Bands wanting to sign up may find the necessary forms at theedge.ceu.edu/battle.htm.
Edge advisor, Troy Hunt said, “We would like to thank Todd Oldham, and Neil Breinholt of Rockland Music Supply for their support of this year’s battle.   Without their willingness to help us, the battle would not be able to be a success.”   The battle is a fund raiser for 107.9 The Edge, CEU’s campus radio station.   The station functions as a curricular arm of the communication department.   “The station functions on a small budget.   The funds raised at Battle of the Bands helps augment the ability to purchase equipment and supplies students need to study broadcast production,” said Hunt.
More information about the Friday Night Schmoozer concert series can be found at the radio station’s web site, theedge.ceu.edu.
