Tracie Noyes’s love of working with students helped her become the director of student support services at the College of Eastern Utah fall semester after Brad Watson resigned and accepted a position at Utah State University.
Noyes has been working on the CEU campus since 1999. She has worked as an advisor in SSS five years. She also worked in scholarships and high school relations for two years before transferring to SSS. Her educational background includes receiving her associate’s of science degree at CEU and her bachelor’s of science degree in human resource management from USU.
The goal of student support services is to help low-income, first generation and disabled students to succeed while attending CEU, graduate with an associate’s degree and transfer to a university. Some of the services that SSS provides include academic advising, transfer advising, career advising, tutoring, and a laptop and calculator loan program, she said.
Noyes’ job is to oversee everything that happens in student support services, along with advising students.
There are 160 students in the student support services program. About 47 percent of student support services students graduate with their associate’s degree and transfer to another college.
Noyes would like more students to enroll at CEU and says that working with students and watching them graduate is the favorite part of her job.
Student support services is the name of the federal grant awarded to CEU in the amount of $235,000 per year. The grant is normally only for four years but if a college ranks in the top 10 percent, the federal agency awarding the grant adds an extra year.
According to Noyes, everyone on her staff worked on providing information for the grant.
