College of Eastern Utah celebrates Founder’s Day

College of Eastern Utah celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the college on Saturday, March 24, 2007.   The entire community is invited to share a memorable evening honoring outstanding athletes, alumni and community members.

 The Athletic Hall of Fame committee, chaired by CEU Athletic Director Dave Paur, selected three individuals for recognition in 2007.   Angela Ross Arnold was CEU’s first NJCAA   woman’s All-American selected in 1993-94 and holds many records in women’s athletics at CEU.     Brothers, Clark Powell and Douglas Powell will be remembered for their athletic prowess during the ’50s and ’60s at both, Carbon High and the college.   Each went on to excel in other athletic endeavors, Clark as a member of military teams and Douglas at Weber State College where he played Division-I basketball under Coach Dick Motta.  
 Nominated and selected for recognition as Distinguished Alumni of the college are Steve ‘Rocky’ Johnson, ’73; Kory D. Judd, ’82; Mary Cristelli Rynio ’43; Gene Tobey, ’64 (posthumous). Johnson is active in communications and media, Judd is a chemical engineer with Chevron USA, Rynio is a civic leader in Rock Springs, Wyo., and Tobey was a well-known artist who collaborated with wife Rebecca on ceramic and bronze sculptures, paintings and jewelry.
 Gold Circle donors who will receive the Eagle statue sculpted by emeritus professor James Young are; the family of Perry and Rhea McArthur, Grant and Betty Fausett, Shirley W. Thomas, Janet I. Embry, Donna Vee Forsyth Christensen, Marc C. Bingham.   Their financial contribution and commitment to the college have provided numerous scholarships for CEU students.
 This year’s Founder’s Day Dinner and Awards program recognizes the 70th anniversary of the founding of the college. All friends and alumni of the college are invited to make reservations to attend. For reservations call (435) 613-5256 by March 16th. Tickets are $30 per person.
