Eastern Utah Eagles struggle on the road
For 16-straight conference games, the Golden Eagles baseball team has been on the road, and struggled to come up with much needed wins.
The Eagles have gone 3-13 in the last four weeks to bring their overall conference record to 9-19.
“Our mental approach has not been where it needs to be in order to win games on the road.
We all need to improve our efforts,” stated assistant coach Frank Ori. The Eagles are now in fifth place, nine games out of first place.

The Eagles have gone 3-13 in the last four weeks to bring their overall conference record to 9-19.

On March 30th the Eagles traveled to Rangeley, Colo., to play the Spartans. In game one, the Eagles came out flat, scoring just one run and committing four errors to lose the game 5-1.
Marcus Hamatake started for the Eagles and threw four innings and gave up two-earned runs. Brett Boyd went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI.
In game two, pitcher Jayson Madson took control of the game from the beginning.
He did what few pitchers have ever done in this league and that is throwing a no hitter. Cy Young once said, “A pitcher’s got to be good and he’s got to be lucky to get a no hit game.” Jayson was good, as he allowed no hits and had four strike outs, with two walks.
“I was fortunate, my defense played really well,” commented Madson, “just one of those days where everything was working well.” Alex Rosenhan went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI, while Brett Boyd added a double.
In game three, CEU’S bats came alive as they spanked the Spartans 10-1. Cole Evans picked up the win on the mound striking out five. Jens Wilson went 3 for 4 in the game with a single, double and a triple while Tyler Nelson, Joe Via and Marcus Handley all added a pair of hits. Game four was not as positive for the Eagles as the bats went silent, again scoring just one run as the Spartans went on to win 5-1.
Outfielder Matt Park commented on the weekend, “We came in thinking that we were going to knock their socks off, but we lacked focus and determination. We just need to come together and not have so many errors.”
The following week the Eagles were in Salt Lake City to play the Bruins. The Eagles lost all four games on the weekend, three of which were by one run.
Errors were definitely a factor on the weekend for the Eagles as they committed 13 errors in four games.
In game one, the Eagles lost 5-4, Rosenhan and Fronk each had a pair of hits with Hanley adding two RBIs. In game two, Rosenhan and Boyd each had a single and a double which accounted for four of the six team hits as the Eagles lost 6-2.
In game three it was a pitcher’s duel as CEU’s Madson and SLCC’s Tyson Ford each allowed just three hits in the game.
However, with two unearned runs due to errors, Madson was handed the loss. Game four was another tough one as the Eagles lost 4-3. As Reggie Jackson once said “I don’t mind getting beaten, but I hate to lose.”
These were definitely three tough loses for the Eagles, but they are moving on and getting ready to finish the season off strong.
With the top three teams in the conference left to finish the season off, CEU will try to improve their record and prepare for playoffs to be held in the beginning of May.
