Fridays, not casual but true blue
When you think of Fridays, what comes to your mind? Beginning of the weekend, time to sleep in, go home, visit family, do exciting things with friends or how about a time to show your school spirit?
That’s right, starting at the beginning of the school year, ASCEU President Emilie Dunn declared every Friday True Blue CEU Day, “Wear your CEU apparel. We don’t care if it’s a sweat shirt or a T-shirt, socks, headbands or even wristbands. If it says CEU, we want you wearing it.

That’s right, starting at the beginning of the school year, ASCEU President Emilie Dunn declared every Friday True Blue CEU Day, “Wear your CEU apparel. We don’t care if it’s a sweat shirt or a T-shirt, socks, headbands or even wristbands. If it says CEU, we want you wearing it.
We think by doing this, we will have an extreme amount of pride in our school. It’s a chance for students, faculty and staff to show pride and school spirit and be proud of where they are,” she stated.
According to Dunn, “The idea came up in a meeting with a bunch of faculty, I believe it was Kevin Walthers who said he was done talking about it and actually wanted to see something get accomplished. So he asked student government to take control and we put the word out.”
The first information came across in a campus wide e-mail; however Dunn acknowledged, “I know not many students who take advantage of their school e-mail, but I encourage them to do so.
It’s a great way to keep in touch with teachers and find out about exciting events happening on campus. Mass text messaging and word of mouth have also been helpful in notifying students of the event.” The Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services Kevin Walthers is one of the biggest advocates for this event, he thinks it’s a great idea and shows positive leadership on the part of ASCEU. “I do participate and encourage my staff to join in. I think if you walk around campus on Fridays and look at the number of people wearing their CEU shirts that it’s catching on pretty well. I’d like to see it spread to our community as well,” he said.
Dunn is happy with the participation of faculty and staff and would like to see more students participate and hopes that as the weeks go on, everyone will join in.
The San Juan Campus has also been invited to join in on the event and she hopes they will participate also. Many people including CEU Ambassador Collin Jensen said, “It’s a great idea, and it boosts morale and school spirit.”
Alyson Jensen, another ambassador said, “It’s a fun idea and you have no excuse not to participate because the bookstore here on campus sells many cute and very cheap T-shirts.”
Susan Leonard from the bookstore said, “It’s about time that we support our school and show some spirit, it’s no surprise I own a lot of gear, now it gives me a day to wear it. I just wish more people would get involved and stay involved.”
“Friday was chosen as the official spirit day because it is the day most of the CEU athletic events take place, when many of our Eagle Excitements are happening and well … Friday is just a great day. I hope that all students, faculty and staff will support our school and show how proud you truly are,” Dunn added.
