Dance: sport or art

So what offi cially makes a sport?
Does it need rules or a specifi ed amount
of players to make a team? Dance is as
competitive as any other event in the
United States.

I believe dance is as American as
baseball, football or even basketball.
It’s just as hard as any other sport, and
I also would like to mention that it is
admired as well.
Dance can be looked upon as art
from the view of the performance,
but the eye is supposed to focus on
the performer.
I am a male dancer and danced for
seven years, but never taken any professional
type of teaching, learning only
what middle school and high school
have taught me. Now I don’t claim to
be the best dancer in school, I know
there are a lot of other male dancers
who could “serve” me any day.
Now I’ve also been hearing that
dancers eat only the smallest meals to
keep our weight down. Dancers like
any other person you see everyday eats
the same as everyone else. Sure it’s nice
to be on a scheduled diet and all, but
not everyone does that. Athletes, I’m
sure, eat a lot of protein so they’ll get
through the game, much like dancers,
we eat protein so that we’ll get through
our long performances.
Dancers are athletes as much as they
are artists and they deserve the same
respect as any other well conditioned and talented athlete.

    I have a question for you…
How did you get the job as the mascot?
And are you on a dance scholarship?
If so, how did you get a dance scholarship without any formal training?
