When Dean of Students, DEl Beatty found out there would be 20 women competing for Miss CEU 2008, all he could say was, “Shut the back door! … No Way!”
With workshops underway, Miss CEU is officially on the road. The theme is “Rhythm of the Night.” There are 20 women entered who are in the process of learning production numbers, swimsuit and evening wear modeling patterns, interviewing skills and practicing vocabulary.
“This will be the best show Carbon County has ever seen,” says Brianna Johnson, a contestant in the production, and Beatty promises a show that is fast-paced and modern. There won’t be long intros or breaks, and it will go from one area of competition right into the next.
The opening number is “Rhythm of the Night” from the “Moulin Rouge” movie soundtrack and when that’s over, the first person for swimsuit competition comes out to the same music. Beatty says it should be very exciting.
These 20 women will be making history for CEU on February 7 at 7:30 p.m. By the end of that night, there will be a new Miss CEU and she will be given the choice to compete in the Miss Utah Pageant and if she wins there, who knows — she may be the next Miss America.
“Somewhere some girl is entering a pageant and this time next year, she’ll be Miss America,” Beatty said.
