Several fights broke out near the College of Eastern Utah campus and into the community last weekend. There is no clear answer as to why the brawls began but they allegedly started when three white males and one black male, wearing CEU apparel, assaulted a young man at midnight Friday Aug. 22.
The victim stated that as he was walking down 300 East and 500 North when the four men began attacking him. Soon after the victim contacted family members and told them what happened. When he did so, it set off a chain reactions that led a group of men on a hunt to find the culprits.
The group moved through Burtenshaw and Tucker dorms, then on to the Aaron Jones complex.
Several students nearly became involved as the young men noisily worked their ways through the halls. “We almost fought them due to the problem of miscommunication,” said Ryan Stream, a CEU student who witnessed the acts.
When the men realized that their search was futile, they moved to a resident’s home just north of CEU. As temper’s flared, one of the members in the group punched a screen door and hit an occupant of the house. The owners of the home immediately called Price City Police who quickly responded to the scene of the disturbance. As the police arrived most were able to escape although there were some still in the house who were apprehended by the officers. At the end of the event, the group went their separate ways. The owners of the house said that there was no severe damage but they are debating pressing charges on the man who committed the acts.
