D-1 coaches check out sophomores on men’s basketball team
With the amount of talent the College of Eastern Utah’s men’s basketball team is bringing to the ’08-’09 program, people are starting to notice, such as 17 major college and university basketball coaches.
The past few weeks the basketball court in the BDAC has been graced with the presence of coaches from the University of New Mexico, University of Utah, Colorado State, Weber State University, Utah Valley University, Lamar University (Texas), Arkansas, San Antonio, Montana State, Northern Arizona University and Southern Utah University.

Coach Chris Craig says there are still coaches that plan to visit CEU’s program including personnel from University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Oklahoma, Utah State, Fresno State, Nebraska and Pepperdine.
With all these coaches coming to watch CEU’s men practice, one would think it would be a distraction. But Craig said, “Most of the sophomores have played at a high level in tournaments allover the nation and have had coaches look at them before.
“The freshmen on the team this year are not allowed to talk about deals with the other coaches because freshman are not considered recruit-able until their sophomore year.
“All the guys are focused on this year’s team and this year’s team only. When the year is over, then we will move on and then my goal will be to get all our sophomores to good Division-1 schools.”
Craig did not specify which sophomores the D-1 coaches are looking at to recruit. He prefers the team works together this year and not worry about individual performances or what next year has to offer.
