This past weekend, the College of Eastern Utah’s lady Eagles played two games at Southern Utah University in preseason play: Lethbridge Community College, and Arizona Western.
The first game was against Lethbridge Community College, located in Canada. Lethbridge entered the game undefeated through four contests. Lethbidge is led by Kim Lembert averaging 27 points a game. Lembert is the conference leader in Canada in scoring. The lady Eagles went on a 15 to zero run to open the first half of the game.
According to Head Coach Dave Paur, the defense was stellar. CEU was led by Kaylie Robinson who scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, Livnat (Libby) Alon lead the team in assists with eight. She also had five steals which helped the team immensely. The Lady Eagles won with the final score of 70 to 58.
The next day the lady Eagles played Arizona Western. The Lady Eagles were stride for stride with Arizona Western at half-time with the score tied. In the second half, the lady Eagles started to pull away from their opponents. With a minute and thirty seconds left in the game, Ande Miller hit a three-pointer to give the lady Eagles a six-point lead.
Coach Paur said that the defense in the last five minutes of the game was the turning point for the game, because they were able to hold Arizona Western to only two points. The team was once again lead by Kaylie Robinson with 15 points. Adriana Cordova was also a huge help to the team by scoring nine points coming off of the bench. The team won again with a final score of 76 to 66.
The team looked excellent in both games and will hopefully keep playing as well as they have.
