Scheduled for January 21 at 7 p.m., the College of Eastern Utah Fashion Show is will hit the runway in the JLSC multi-purpose room with the hope of bringing students and the community together. Entry is $2 for children, senior citizens and students with ID, and $4 for everyone else.
Half of the profits from the show will be donated to the Price Food Bank, says the show’s producer Edgar Fluentes, who hopes for great participation and a good turnout. The other 50 percent generated from the show will be divided: with 30 percent given to student activities and the remaining 20 percent to the winning group.
To compete in the Fashion Show, a group of four people are needed: a model, hair/make-up artist, clothing designer and a supervisor or team leader. Six outfits are required for each group to design and must be finished before the “non-dress” rehearsal on Jan. 20. The six outfits are listed as one outfit for each of the four seasons, a formal elegant outfit and one outfit that “only in your imagination could be possible.”
While the application for the show advises the use of personal modesty, Fluentes says, “you don’t have to be sluttly to prove you’re sexy.” He advises to “be sexy, be unique, be different.” The judges represent personnel from the art, dance, physical education, recruiting and cosmetology departments and will be judging on styles, poise, creativity, hair, make-up and the model walk.
The idea for the CEU Fashion Show was proposed to student government after Fluentes began watching some fashion programs on television and noticing people around campus who were trying to be unique. There are lots of things going on around campus, such as CEU Idol and people are excited about it. Fluentes hopes people get excited and look forward to the fashion show that currently only a few people have signed up for. With a 20 percent cut of the profit and the chance to strut your stuff and your style, sign up whether you are a girl or a guy and as Fluentes says, “Let’s see what happens.”
Rules are easy to follow and are outlined on the CEU Fashion Show application sheet, which you can pick up from Edgar Fuentes by calling (435) 210-0597, e-mail at [email protected]; or assistant Kelly Sites at (801) 400-6952, [email protected]. Applications need to be turned in to the CEUSA office in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center by the end of fall semester 2008.
