Celebration of Poe’s work on campus Friday the 13th

CEU students and faculty will celebrate the Edgar Allan Poe Bicentennial on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the SAC Little Theatre with readings of the acclaimed poet.
Poe was born Jan. 19, 1809, but according to math instructor and Poe fan, Sonnet Gravina, “Friday the 13th seemed like a perfect fit for Poe, plus it’s the day before Valentine’s.”
Poe, one of America’s great Romantic-era poets, actually had a pretty sad love life. “The irony was too good to pass up,” said Gravina.

Poe enthusiasts from across campus will gather for a public reading of selected poems and short stories. “We’ll have some refreshments, a little music, and pass out red carnations in honor of Valentine’s Day, but mostly we just want to enjoy Poe’s words,” says English instructor and poet, Jason Olson, who will be on hand to read from some of his favorite Poe pieces.
English major Justin Wilde, co-editor of the Nighthawk Review, CEU’s literary magazine, will be among the students participating in the reading. The public is invited to the event, which is free of charge.
