Change is a common theme in America these days. On the national spectrum, change is used as deceptive rhetoric, but you can count on real change at the College of Eastern Utah library. At the library, change actually enhances accessibility and offers its recipients realistic and pragmatic approaches to scholastic ventures.
Lori Brassaw, interim library director for 2009-10, enthusiastically noted several changes that have already been made this year. Most noteworthy is the change the library has made in the online databases. Now you must have a C number to access the databases off campus. This means that those who have previously accessed the databases with a library card and no C number will no longer have that opportunity. This service is designed primarily for the benefit of the students, faculty and staff.
Other changes that are advantageous to the students include: a new big study room on the main floor that allows a larger group to study together, Microsoft Office 2007 has been installed on the main floor computers so all the computers have that service, office rooms have been rearranged which allows students and staff to interact and have a more personable environment, windows have been added to the study rooms upstairs to ensure a safe study atmosphere, the library is now on Facebook and Twitter and student artwork is displayed upstairs.
Whenever you discuss anything CEU related, the mystery merger is always looming in the background waiting to make its own changes. Regarding the merger and library, Brassaw mentioned that USU has been generous to work with. She also said that things will only get better and couldn’t think of anything negative in the future.
There is a great deal of anticipation for the final merger decisions, but for now the library staff has made changes that offer students greater accessibility and a more enjoyable experience. If there will be anymore changes, it will be a matter of futurity.
