USU Chamber Singers and Jazz Orchestra performance on Price campus

The Utah State University Chamber Singers and Jazz Orchestra from Logan will appear in concert at Utah State University-Eastern on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Geary Theatre. This special performance in Price has been arranged through the cooperative efforts of USU Eastern, USU Caine College of the Arts, and USU Regional Campuses & Distance Education.

The Utah State University Chamber Singers and Jazz Orchestra from Logan will appear in concert at Utah State University-Eastern on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Geary Theatre. This special performance in Price has been arranged through the cooperative efforts of USU Eastern, USU Caine College of the Arts, and USU Regional Campuses & Distance Education.
The USU Chamber Singers, conducted by Cory Evans, is composed of 25-30 versatile and dedicated student musicians who perform a wide range of choral styles and periods in local, regional, and national concert venues. Though membership of the group modulates annually, the Chamber Singers standard of excellence remains stellar. The Jazz Orchestra is the premier jazz ensemble at USU and is directed by Jon Gudmundson, head of the jazz studies program. It is made up of five saxophones, five trumpets, four trombones, piano, guitar, bass, and drums, and performs selections from big band and contemporary jazz music.
Cory Evans, Director of Choral Activities at USU, is from Salt Lake City. He received degrees Utah State University, the University of Florida, and Arizona State University. He also serves as Music Director of the Northern Utah Choral Society and as Executive Director of Music Reservata of Utah. Evans has served as Musical Director of the Arizona Mormon Choir, Zion’s Youth Choir of Florida, and as Head of Choral Activities at Indian Hills Middle School in Sandy.
Jon Gudmundson is Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of Saxophone at USU. He holds degrees from Western Washington University, Indiana University and the University of Northern Colorado, and has studied jazz with David Baker, Jerry Coker, and Chuck Israels, and saxophone with William Wicker, Julia Nolan, and Roger Greenberg. Gudmundson has performed with Donald Harrison, the Harry James Band, David Young, Aaron Neville, Roberta Flack, Connie Haines, and many others.
The Chamber Singers and Jazz Orchestra will first perform separately, then combine for a grand concert finale. Admission to the concert is free, and a reception will be held following the performance for the audience and musicians to meet.
