Jamie Smith is a 5’7” freshman point guard from Riverton Utah. She graduated from Riverton High School and during her time there she received accolades on the Honor Roll, the Riverton Athlete Award, All Tournament, All Region, Academic All Region, and they were state champions for basketball. Smith participated in basketball and soccer during high school; however she only played soccer till her sophomore year because she tore her ACL during the basketball season.
Smith has two brothers, two step brothers, and two step sisters. She is the youngest of her immediate family and she has two dogs. As a family, Smith says that they travel a lot for sports so the time for traveling is usually considered their vacation time.
Smith made the decision to come to USU Eastern because it is close to home and “it just felt right when I came here.” She loves the school because of the smaller class rooms and she can get more one-on-one time with the teachers if she needs it. She also likes living in Sessions because everyone that lives there can hang out at any time they would like. “I like college because it is fun being on my own but sometimes it is hard to find stuff to do in Price.”
Next year, Smith plans on coming back to USU Eastern and playing basketball. So far this year, Smith thinks that the basketball season is going well and she has high hopes for the region tournament. Smith was asked if she feels that playing high school ball is different than college ball and she feels that it is definitely different but she really enjoys it. She really likes the style Coach Paur has put into action, “I really like pushing the ball fast down the court, and the intensity really makes the game fun.”
Her hobbies include listening to music, reading, and hanging out with her friends. Her favorite food is spaghetti and she loves to drink Powerade. Smith’s favorite quote is, “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” And her favorite three movies are Glory Road, Frozen, and Baby Mama.
