Soccer season is coming to an end, but the men’s soccer team is not quit done yet. After taking the win with a score of 2-1 on Oct. 16, against the Utah Storm 98 club team, the men qualified to go to regionals.
Xavier Jordan stated, “We possessed the ball really well and put the game away at the last minute.”
On Oct. 25, the men had their first Region IX Tournament game against Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, coming out with a 4-0 win. Three unassisted points were scored by Jesus Chavez, Alexia Belza and Yousseff Mourchid while Michael Brian kicked the ball back to Michael for the fourth and final point. Two yellow cards were given to Luis Ricomd and Chavez.
Next, the men go to the semifinals and play against Trinidad State Junior College in Powell, Wyo. for a chance to play for the region title on Saturday, Nov. 1. The men played against Trinidad before and lost 1-0 in their home field. Trinidad scored their lone goal right before halftime.
They have worked hard both off and on the field to improve as team and as individuals. They feel pretty confident that with all the hard work they have done, they will come out with a win at the semifinals this weekend.
The team has improved a lot from when they first started playing for USU Eastern and continue to surprise everyone with what they have accomplished this season, especially for it being a startup program.
Jordan stated, “This season has been great and it has been fun; all of our team members have skills and I like the way the team was put together the way it was.”
