Melissa Arrien came from Emery High School to attend Utah State University Eastern in 2015.
Before college, Arrien participated in volleyball and softball. She still enjoys being active and outdoors, however, as a full-time-sophomore student with two jobs, is busy but motivated. She enjoys psychology, anatomy and phlebotomy. These classes push her to reach her goal of graduating this year and someday working as a nurse, possibly a nurse midwife.
She is a certified nursing assistant and plans on beginning a nursing program Fall 2017. She is naturally a hard worker and learns that from her family, who she cherishes. “I am a very big family person.”
With a desire to be a positive force, Arrien enjoys service. She went on a trip to South Carolina as part of a group to impact the condition of living there. “We played with the kids, hosted a soup kitchen, cleaned up the beach and we cleaned up a yard so a church could be built.”
A close friend to Arrien, Mari Avila, said, “Mel’s a pretty unique friend. She’s always there when you need her and is so kind and sweet. Not to mention a terrific dance partner, sings all the time which is awesome. She’s goofy and sassy and will relate with you on any subject. What comes to mind when I think of Mel is last year, my first year, when I was going through a rough patch in my life I could always count on Mel for a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen and voice to speak up when I needed guidance or reassurance.”
