Salon for Survival

The “treating” of October’s trick or treating tradition was amplified by USU Eastern cosmetology students who raised $1,000 in a bake sale to help fund cancer treatment expenses for area residents last week.
The students partner with area salons to raise funds and bring awareness to lymphoma cancer as part of the seventh annual Salons for Survival program chaired by Alisha Marelli, owner of Bellasano Salon and Spa in Price. Marelli came up with the idea and works with Debbie Prichard, USU Eastern associate professor, to raise money to help area residents pay for expenses of their cancer treatments.
Since then, Price salons and the USU Eastern cosmetology department team together every October to offer a bake sale to raise money.
USU Eastern cosmetology students, each wearing lime green T-shirts, hosted this year’s bake sale in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center Oct. 10. Armed with baskets of homemade baked goods, they sold their treats in the student center and also traveled throughout campus, offering sweets to those in classes, offices and in the residence halls. Some took goodies to area businesses including many salons.
Prichard said, “We’re excited for the support the USU Eastern community has given us for this cause the past seven years. So many women and families in this community have been affected by this disease, and every penny the students earn stays in the area.”
Continuing, “We are grateful to live in this area where people are kind and generous. Many people and businesses donated to this worthy cause by supporting the bake sale or just donating money,”
Throughout October, participating salons are donating 20 percent of all services performed on Tuesdays. Contributing to the Salons for Survival fundraiser include: Bellasano Salon and Spa, Perfect Touch Beauty Supply and Salon, Great Clips, Nail Shop and Scissor Talk.
