USU Eastern rodeo team members qualify for nationals in June; they may never compete

USU Eastern’s rodeo team is hopeful they get a chance to compete in the College National Finals Rodeo scheduled for mid-June.

Due to the Coronavirus impacting the world, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association made the decision to end the season for all regions and schools on March 17. With that decision, the season was called, and the total points had been amassed after six rodeos for the year.

With that being said, four out of Eastern’s rodeo members qualified for nationals in Casper, Wyo.

Morgan Jensen ended the season as the Rocky Mountain region champion in the barrel racing with a nearly 200-point lead on her closest competitor. This will be Jensen’s second consecutive qualification for the CFNR in the barrel racing.

Austin Allred ended the season as the reserve champion in the bull riding event. This is also Allred’s second qualification for the CFNR.

The twin brother team of Will and Wyatt Magnuson ended the year in third place in the team roping event. This will be their first qualification for nationals.

“We are so proud of our team. Another awesome feat is that all of these team members are local kids that grew up in the Castle Country Area” head coach Monte Jensen, said.
