Women’s Basketball go 1-1 before tough upcoming stretch

The USU Eastern women’s basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend and will
now be tested by ranked opponents over the next four games.
The Lady Eagles defeated Community Christian College 93-46 at home after losing for the
second time to the Badgers of Snow College, 59-50, in Ephraim. They are now 10-11 on the
season, 6-5 in conference play.
The Eagles stayed close in the first half against the Badgers and pulled to within nine
points at the start of the fourth quarter. But each team scored 15 points in the final frame. Kinlee
Toomer, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Emery High, led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points.
Ashlee Edwards led all scorers with 20 points for the Badgers.
The Eagles enjoyed the home court against the Community Christian College. They
wasted no time to jump to a 47-23 halftime lead. Eastern did not take its foot off the gas pedal as
they outscored the Saints by 23 points in the second half. Aaliyah Davis of Community
Christian, led all scorers with 23 points, while 5-foot-6 freshman Maclani Michael from
Auckland, New Zealand led the Eagles with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
“Our girls bounced back well after the loss to Snow College,” Eagles Coach Chelsey
Warburton says. “They didn’t give up, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The Eagles hope to move past the .500 mark on the season, but it won’t be easy. The next
four games are against ranked opponents. They host College of Southern Idaho on February 2,
Salt Lake Community College on February 5 and 7. They finish off the tough 4 game stretch in
Twin Falls, Idaho where they will face the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles for the last time this
season.
“These next few games are going to show us who we truly are,” Warburton said. “These
two teams are extremely good, and we have competed each time we’ve played them. I expect the
same fight and performance from my players this time around as well.”
