Updates with the LLC
Some other things for students to know are that other than studying, many things are happening in the library. On the second Tuesday of each month from 11AM-1PM, there is free popcorn for anyone. There are also workshops of 3D printing, books to read for pleasure, and will later be hosting an open house with food, popcorn, and other exciting things.
As we progress forward with this semester, students should be informed about the many resources they have at the Library and Learning Commons at Utah State University Eastern. Since last semester more technology has been made available and many other changes have taken place to further enable students’ learning. There are some resources that might be helpful to familiarize yourself with.
The first one is the Academic Tutor Center. The tutor center (located in the LLC) is there to help students develop competencies in academic subjects including math, chemistry, anatomy, physics, psychology, and more. The tutoring center is CRLA certified and prepared to help students succeed. Recently, Ben Larsen has been hired as a second math tutor which means students have even more available times to either walk in or schedule an appointment to get help. Tutoring is free to all students and now is a great time to take advantage of this resource.
Another place you should be familiar with is the LLC Circulation Desk/ID Office. Did you know that laptops, calculators, and ipads are available for checkout at the circulation desk in the library? If you are in need of these items, the library could be a good place to go. The ID office recently upgraded to a new machine/software and is happy to help students from 8-4 on weekdays. Replacement cards are available if a student card isn’t working for the Nexus or other areas on campus free of cost.
There is also a new booking system for study rooms in the library that are now available. Book them online at library.usu.edu/eastern/
Students may also find the Production Center interesting. In the production center of the library there is a new Cricut with an easy on press for iron on as well as two 3D printer pens, and 3D printers. If there is a project you’d like to complete using any of these resources, the library is happy to help.
Did you know that Michael W Harris, our Outreach and Statewide Service Librarian, is available for research consultations? He is there to help any students find articles/books to complete any kind of writing. Students can email him directly to schedule an appointment at [email protected].
