Debate trophies stored until permanent home can be found

All of the debate trophies that have been displayed in the trophy cases in the Old Main Building had to be moved before the demolition of the building began.  No arrangement had been made to have them exhibited at another site on campus, so they have been boxed and stored in the Communications Department until an appropriate showcase is found, retired debate Coach Neil Warren said.

Over the years the debate and forensics squads have won thousands of trophies and awards.  The individual trophies have been given or returned to the students who own them.  Only the team awards and some national trophies have been kept by the school.  They number 315, including 24 national championship first place awards, four second and 12 third place national championship awards.  CEU President Thomas promised that a suitable location a will be found or constructed to exhibit this important part of CEU’s history.

As one of many who helped earn those trophies, it is gratifying to know that the history of Forensics at the College Of Eastern Utah is, and will be again soon, in a new home, there for posterity.

We didn’t earn a national championship, but gave a good accounting of ourselves, and our coach, Neil Warren. I don’t remember all the names of the team, but among the competitors were myself, Dean Shimabukaro, and several others. What was great is, as far as I know, there wasn’t a weak link. Everybody on the squad gave it their all and helped to bring home the trophies.
