Lady Eagles end a great season with tourney loss to SLCC

The College of Eastern Utah Lady Eagles basketball team finished up the Regional Tournament at CSI in March. The women battled it out cruising around North Idaho in the first round, but then fell to Salt Lake Community College in the second. This loss sent the women home ranked in the top 30.
It seemed as if the tournament would be an easy one for the Lady Eagles, when they smashed North Idaho off the court in their first round match. The Lady Eagles played at their best during this game with good offense and defense, and it showed with a final score of 90 – 69. This win allowed them to advance to the next round against SLCC.
Lindsey Arnoldus was the lead scorer during this game with 16 points. Chelsey Warburton followed with 14, and Cassie Warburton and Chelsey Jackson both had 12 points. As a team, CEU shot 41 percent.
Their confidence up, the Lady Eagles went to compete against SLCC. This game was a rocky one. Both teams were playing great in this match up, but SLCC soon took the lead and kept it. The Lady Eagles lost to SLCC, knocking them out of the tournament in the second round. The final score of the game was 70 to 62.
“This could have been the greatest comeback game of the season, but SLCC is hard to take the lead against after they are so far ahead of you,” commented Coach Dave Paur.
Cassie Warburton led in points with 18, and Lindsey Arnoldus also played a good game with 11 points. The team shot 34 percent, although they lost, played a really good game overall.
The Warburton sisters, Chelsey and Cassie, both made First All-Region Team. This is a great accomplishment for these women. Coaches from the other teams in the region vote for who they want to be on the All-Region Team. Lindsey Arnoldus was named Honorable mention . These three women all were accepted by these teams because of their outstanding playing skills throughout the season and the tournament.
Overall, the women’s basketball team had a pretty good season, ending with a 23-9 record. Coach David Paur said, “This was the best record by the women’s team in CEU’s history. I am very pleased with the women.” To sum up the season, they played great and finished stronger than ever.
