After a season that didn’t turn out the way that the Eagles would have liked, the team looks forward to next year and the possibility of a better season. The Lady Eagles have several players coming back, and added some new recruits.
Elisha Harris a 5’6″ point guard from West Jordan High School was the MVP of the 4A-5A All-Star game last season. She led in scoring with 17 points in that game and named to the All-State team.
Halee Rasmussen who was a big part in Carbon’s state basketball championship team will be playing for CEU next year. She is a 5’7″ guard who was also named to the first All-State team and involved in the 2A-3A All-Star game.
Jennica Mecham from Filer, Idaho, will be wearing a CEU uniform next year. She is a 5’7″ guard who averaged 18 points per game and knocked down 46-three pointers last year. She was also on the Idaho All-State team.
5’10” Mallory Holm from Milford High School will be playing for CEU next year. She was named to the first team All-State last year at Milford where she averaged 17 points per game.
Staci Little will be transferring from SUU this upcoming season. She is a 6’3″ center that played at Cottonwood High School before playing at SUU. She was named to the All-State team while in high school.
Ashley Taylor who played for East High School last year will be coming to CEU to play small forward at 5’8″. She averaged 20 points per game before she tore her ACL in January, which ended her season.
Jenny Fiso from Orem High School committed to play at CEU. She is a 5’6″ guard who was named to the All-State team.
Jennifer Little who is attending BYU, decided to play basketball at CEU. A 5’11” forward, she played at Cottonwood High School. Coach Dave Paur said, “She looks like she will be a very good shooter from behind the arc.”
The team will be loosing some good players this year. Veva Whitear, who was named student athlete of the year, was also named Academic All-American along with Marci Loveless who was also named Academic All-American.
The volleyball team has recruited players plus played in tournaments this spring.
Coach Brent Martindale said, “We aren’t quite done recruiting this year but we’re close.” He said recruiting is hard because he is forced to recruit against not only other two-year schools, but four-year schools as well. The other problem that CEU has is that teams like Salt Lake Community College and both teams from Idaho have bigger budgets than CEU does.
“We have had a few disappointments, but patience has paid off. We have got some very good players for next year,” he said.
His recruits include Ashlee Baker from North Ridge High School who will play middle and outside hitter.
Hillary Procter from Skyline High School will be playing outside hitter.
Another outside hitter that CEU has picked up is Maren Ericson, from Boise, Idaho, where she played at Kuna High School.
The team has also picked up Carbon High’s Courtney Young, who is a defensive specialist. Young was a member of Carbon High’s state championship team last fall.
The team is also looking at two other possible players that would be setters for next season. Coach Martindale said that they would also take a couple of walk-on players.
The team played in two tournaments earlier this spring, where they playing against Weber State, Utah Valley Community College and the University of Utah. Martindale said, “The team played very well at these two tournaments. We were short handed as we didn’t have many players, but the team played surprisingly well in such intimidating circumstances. They played with a lot of heart and I’m proud of them for that.”
The men’s basketball coaches are still heavy into their recruiting process. They will announce their recruits later.
