Final election decisions for the College of Eastern Utah’s 2006-07 student government positions will be March 24.
Election packets can be picked up for the five positions available: president, executive vice president, academic vice president, inner club council vice president and activities vice president. These packets include an application for office and list of rules.
Most of the rules have to do with campaigning, but there are three rules of eligibility. The student needs to “be a full-time student, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a 3.0 GPA at the end of fall 2005, be in good standing in respect to the student Code of Conduct.” Students need to turn in the official election petition by Feb. 24, by 10 a.m. in the ASCEU leadership office (located on the second floor of the JLSC). The number of names a student needs to collect with the petitions depends on the position the student chooses to apply. Campaigning for the primary elections begins Feb. 27, no earlier than 8 a.m. These elections are designed limit the candidates to two. The rules in the packet include: where to place the advertising materials, who to call for placement of advertisement materials, what things you can and can’t put on the advertising material, the dates that materials need to be cleaned up or posted.
The packet also gives a list of consequences that the candidate will receive if he/she breaks any of these rules. There are three classifications of penalties; A, B and C, for the candidates, the candidate will also know which penalty goes with which rule. Primary Elections will begin on the sixth of March and will run for two days from 9 to 5 p.m.
On March 7, all receipts for items purchased by the candidate for primary elections need to be turned in to Lisa Barnaum, who is located in the ASCEU office, by noon.
After the primary elections, a list of candidates that made it into the general elections will be posted outside the ASCEU office by 7:30 p.m.
