Western Energy Center set grand opening festivities
The College of Eastern Utah’s Western Energy Training Center (WETC), in conjunction with Southeastern Utah Energy Producers Association’s (SEU-EPA) annual symposium and banquet, is celebrating their grand opening. WETC is an industry-driven institution dedicated to providing quality training in coal, gas/oil, utilities, transportation and related industries. It is funded in part by a grant from the Department of Labor, President’s High Quality Job Growth Initiative and Utah State Legislature.

The ribbon cutting and symposium will be at the Western Energy Training Center at 847 North Hwy 191, Helper, on Sept. 28. The center is located just off Highway 6 by turning on Highway 191 toward Duchesne. Drive past the Castle Gate Power Plant and continue about one-fourth mile. Turn left at the WETC sign (formerly the Willow Creek Mine).
The ribbon cutting is at noon with the first symposium session beginning at 1 p.m. The speakers include Andrew Bremner, IPAMS; David Litvin, Utah Mining Association; Mike Hebertson, Utah Division of Oil, Gas & Mining; and Dr. Robert Topping, WETC.
Speakers for second symposium session include: Gary Swan, National Energy Foundation; Andrew Blumenfeld, Arch Coal; Duane Zavadil, Bill Barrett Corporation; and Jim Kohler, Bureau of Land Management.
Later that evening a social hour and SEU_EPA dinner will be held at the Elks Lodge in Price with Richard Walje, Rocky Mountain Power President keynoting it.
Those being given Lifetime Achievement Award during the celebration include Thomas, Stanley, Joseph, and Boyd Harvey – mining; Ken (deceased), Neal, and Luke Savage, Savage Services Corporation – transportation; Bill Barrett, Bill Barrett Corporation – oil, gas, and mining; and Gale Chapman — power generation.
