Proving not to be an average weekend on CEU’s campus, sophomore basketball player Anthony Beach, AKA Anthony Oliver, is accused and arrested for the rape of a female victim on February 26, reports CEU’s James Prettyman, chief of campus police.
Recently released from Carbon County Jail, Beach is suspected of rape committed Sunday morning, February 25, between 3 and 4 am in the Aaron Jones Residence Hall. Prettyman reports, “alcohol was involved” in a party held off campus on Carbonville Road, which may have influenced the suspect to commit the crime. Although Beach has been arrested, a court date has not been chosen because “the county attorney is screening the allegation to determine what charges will be filed,” Prettyman states.
He added, “The victim checked in at Castleview Hospital and a CODE-R kit was collected, the kit which consists of several items for collecting evidence.” DNA, blood samples, fluid samples, skin samples, and hair samples are all pieces of evidence CODE-R kit detects.
A party that took place on Saturday, Feb. 24 is under ongoing investigations. Prettyman suspects that two parties occurred during the same night, one of which the majority of the basketball team attended.
Although it is suspected that the basketball team did attend, Prettyman reports that they were not the only people partying on Carbonville road, but that the baseball team, other college students and possibly non-college students where involved. Prettyman concludes, “all but two or three people were over 21.”
