Holly Mullen to keynote CEU’s 29th annual women’s conference

Newly appointed editor of Salt Lake Weekly, Holly Mullen, will keynote College of Eastern Utah’s 28th annual women’s conference titled “If the Shoe Fits” on Friday, April 20. Registration for the day-long conference is from 8-9 a.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on 300 East and 400 North.
Mullen accepted the editor’s position at Salt Lake Weekly last week. She spent 26 years in professional journalism, holding numerous jobs as newspaper reporter, editor, columnist and most recently, blogger.

Mullen accepted the editor’s position at Salt Lake Weekly last week. She spent 26 years in professional journalism, holding numerous jobs as newspaper reporter, editor, columnist and most recently, blogger.
She is a Salt Lake City native and 1981 graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Her career has taken her to Washington, Minnesota and Texas, with positions at daily newspapers and alternative papers in Minneapolis and Dallas. In 1998 Holly returned to Salt Lake City after 13 years. She began her career at the Salt Lake Tribune with a job as social services reporter. In 1999, Holly was appointed managing editor for sports and oversaw all Tribune sports coverage for the 2002 Winter Olympics. She became a columnist in April 2002, writing three columns a week for the Utah section cover.
Holly left the Tribune in December 2006. She began her blog in January 2007. You can join her at www.mullentown.com.
Holly is married to Ted Wilson, former mayor of Salt Lake City, and the mother of two.
An added bonus to the conference is Dr. Stanley H. Block’s presentation on “Transform Your Life in a Matter of Hours” workshops.
An adjunct professor of law and psychiatry at Seattle University School of Law and adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Block is developing medical applications and practice centers based on Bridging the I-System ® principles.
He is board certified in psychiatry and psychoanalysis. He has had academic appointments and taught at a number of medical schools, including his alma mater, UCLA. He lives in Tacoma, Wash., with his wife and collaborator Carolyn Bryant Block.
Each participant can attend three workshops in the morning and one in the afternoon. The workshops include Dr. Rex Neilsen’s presentation on “State of the Art Options for Women’s Health Care,” Darren Hotton’s “Making Sense of the Medicare Prescription Drug Problem (Medicare Part D),” Julie Anderson’s “Heart, Mind, Body & Soul: Herbs and Health,” Carolyn Hunter’s “Your Mind & Body, Keeping Well Honed,” Carol Walker’s “Identity Theft,” Melissa Combs’ “Coaching Your Business to Success, Writing Business Plans and Financing,” Troy Christensen’s “Color Me Crazy” and Katie Sutton’s “Technology Safety.”
Cost of the conference is $16. Those wanting lunch only, the cost is $12 and includes Mullen’s keynote address and Block’s afternoon workshop on transforming your life.
