Rafting classes diversify eduction
What could be more fun than rafting down a river and going through rapids at awesome speeds without a raft? Some might say that there are plenty of things to fill that “fun” void, while others swear that rafting is the greatest rush ever.
On Saturday, August 22, a group of 16 people, some enrolled in the rafting class at the College of Eastern Utah, took a trip over to Green River and rafted the historic river.

On Saturday, August 22, a group of 16 people, some enrolled in the rafting class at the College of Eastern Utah, took a trip over to Green River and rafted the historic river.
When rafting, there are certain rapids that are different classes or levels or difficulty; one being the easiest, five being the hardest. The Green River run, as the class called it, was considered a class two run with class one rapids. It was the easiest run that was close enough to do in one day. Amber Barlow, a class member, said that the class starts with the easiest run, so they can give a taste of what’s to come.
However, not everyone who went on the trip was a part of the rafting class. Anyone who would like to participate in the rafting activities only has to sign up at the recreation booth set up in CEU’s Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.
The class has a four-day trip planned for September 11-13, where they will be floating through Labyrinth Canyon. A fee of $150 will cover the cost of food, transportation, canoes and other common gear needed. The students will have to, however, provide their own dry bags, tents, and sleeping bags; all of which are available to rent through Carbon Recreation for a minimal fee.
There is a possibility to get one credit for GEO 2700 Science Excursion. This course is a collaboration of the CEU Geology Department and CEU Outdoors. It is still not necessary to enroll in the class if you would like to go on the trip.
The CEU Outdoors has other great activities going on all the time. The outdoors booth is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-2pm. They will be happy to answer any questions about activities available through them.
