CEU’s women’s basketball team got a big boost in their confidence during the last two weeks. They played five games and won three out of the five.
They started off their two-week schedule playing on the road against Colorado Northwestern. The team went out and made
a statement in their
first of two games
against the Spartans.

CEU’s women’s basketball team got a big boost in their confidence during the last two weeks. They played five games and won three out of the five.
They started off their two-week schedule playing on the road against Colorado Northwestern. The team went out and made
a statement in their
first of two games
against the Spartans.
Veva Whitear had a phenomenal game with 13 points, nine assists and four steals. She also went nine for nine from the foul line. Other key players were Krislyn Wallace with six rebounds and 14 points, Marcy Loveless with 10 points, Janeen Nelson with 11, and Jana Glover with 11 points respectively.
After a spectacular performance the day before, the Eagles went out ready to win the second game. The ladies again had a good game beating Colorado, but this
time by 20 points
with the final score
68-48. Wallace
had a great game with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Nelson added 16 points, Glover had 13 and Whitear had
another good game with 10 points and eight assists.
The team’s next game was at home against Air Force Prep. The lady Eagles went out with renewed confidence. They played a strong game and ended up winning 86-67. The team shot 50 percent from behind the arc making 14 of 28 three-pointers. Whitear finished with 14
points and six
rebounds, Nelson
20 points and
Glover had 14.
After winning their last three games, the team traveled to Dixie State College last weekend ready to extend their winning streak. The team stumbled in shooting, with a field goal percentage of only 25.7 percent. They also
scored only 48 points
in the game, losing
by 30 points.
Although the Eagles lost, a couple of bright spots shined on the team. Nelson had 10 points, Krislyn Wallace picked up seven points and seven rebounds and Whitear eight points and four steals. Whitear also missed her first free-throw in 21 attempts, breaking a school record with 20 free-throws in a row. The previous record was held by Nicole Cummings from the 95 season when she made 14 straight free-throws
After taking a pounding Friday night, the team still looked bruised during the first half of their next game against Dixie on Saturday. At the end of the first half, the team was down 43-13. They tried to make a 30-point comeback in the second half but couldn’t get it done. In the second half the Eagles scored 47 points but still ended up losing the game by 12, 72-60. Coach Dave Paur said, “The girls played the worst half of ball so far this year in the first half but then came back and played the best half of the year the second half of the game.” Whitear played phenomenal scoring 25 points with seven boards and five steals. Nelson and Brittany Blaisdell also had good
games; Nelson
added 15 points
and Blaisdell 9.
Paur said that CEU will be losing one of their star players for the rest of the year. Krislyn Wallace will be out the rest of the season as she has been playing with a torn ACL and will be going in to have it surgically repaired Wednesday. Coincidentally, Wallace’s father was the MVP of former CEU head basketball coach Curt Jensen’s program in 1982
On a brighter note, Stacy Little a player from Southern Utah University has verbally committed to Coach Paur to play for CEU next year. Also the CEU women’s team will be playing their last two home games Friday, February 18, and again Saturday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the BDAC against Snow College Badgers.
